Shadow Rounds:

enigmata

The 19 texts used in Shadow Rounds are grouped into 4 periods.

ENIGMATA usually refers to Latin or Anglo Saxon riddles or mysteries which were popular in late Roman and early medieval times. Here the term is used to denote the earliest period of languages found in the area - Celtic, Latin and Anglo Saxon, because their traces are negligable.

Celtic tribes were found here and the name London is now thought to be of Celtic origin.

Spitalfields was just outside the Roman city walls and used as a burial ground. No specific Latin texts are available from this area so an inscription from the Mithraic temple found in the city has been used.

The Anglo Saxons settled in the area west of the city after the Romans left, but it is thought that the east area was also inhabited to some degree. Again, there are no traces of any texts directly found here but the speaking of riddles seems to have been generally popular and they are likely to have been spoken here.
