Two lightboxes: digital prints, sound, video

(heer) is a site-specific image and sound piece for the two Window Galleries at Canary Wharf, London. The piece looks at the figure’s embeddedness in place: it is about both an individual presence and a specific social arena. The images and sounds come from the immediate environment and take into account its historical position. A sense of trade, transference between language types, and movement are focal points for the piece. (heer) uses found text fragments from Gustave Dore and Arthur Rimbaud (both C19th visitors to London) and Iain Sinclair and Peter Ackroyd (both contemporary chroniclers of London). The fragments were distilled from a wide set of writings on the London docks, and they are used here to set the images in a historic space.
